Spring

I'm taking a different angle on Spring this morning, since I was springing out of bed all night to hold W steady over the toilet or mixing bowl while he threw up. As we all, as parents, know, that's some love right there.

It started at 2AM and I wisely got a bowl after the first episode and "slept" in his room for the rest of the night to reduce my travel time (when the shakes came on), between his bed, his person, and the bathroom by having all three right there, in his bed. Kind of like co-sleeping with a newborn: they cry for milk, you nurse while dozing off, then they go back to bed. Problem with this one was there was no immediate falling back asleep. I had to get him to the bathroom to brush his teeth and wash his face and wash out the bowl between vomit sessions. And of course he had that post-vomit euphoria just after throwing up where he felt as if he'd just finished a great workout and shower and was ready to take on the day. Ah, the relief of emptying out that tummy. He chattered happily for nearly ten minutes each time, before the slow train of nighttime nausea caught up with him and lulled him back into a groan-heavy sleep. For a while.

I was supposed to work in his classroom today, and we had to cancel that of course. But his brother went to school and so W and I are having some good old Berenstain Bears movie/computer on the couch time while we sip Gatorade/lattes and nibble on Ritz crackers/Starbucks bran muffins. Not a bad time, so far.
