Refreshingly Secular Rain Forest
Yesterday W had his first non-Jesus praising performance. After the religious preschool (sidenote: great school, bad song list, perhaps a bad choice for a little Jewish kid), he is awash with relief at his secular Kindergarten camp. The performance was impressive: dances from China, Africa, Mexico and even the Republic of Georgia, complete with crepe paper costumes and crowns, kids singing about animals and fauna, and a real oboe as accompaniment. This is my comfort zone: what I grew up doing at school.
"What did you like best about your performance?" I asked W afterwards.
"No more Jesus songs," he said. "These were about the rain forest." Big smile.
Hallelujah.
