What We're Reading

If we're talking about W here, then I should just say "EVERYTHING." My little nearly five-year-old is on fire with reading. Pages of books, sure he reads those. But it's getting out of control now. "Mom," he said yesterday when I told him he couldn't have a juice box in the middle of the afternoon (due to the sugar content), "it SAYS no sugar added." I had to let him drink it.

The other week we were leaving a San Francisco parking garage. I pulled out a $20 as I pulled up to the exit gate. "Mom," W said, "the sign says 'small bills only please.'"

Enough already! There are detriments to early childhood reading.

Okay so I'm not really perturbed that he's reading up a storm. I'm thrilled (we're readers. We started reading full books to him when he was most captive--before he could roll or crawl away--see photo), and I'm also in love with the books W has chosen to read to me most often lately.

This past Christmakah I asked all grandparents to buy books clothes and balls only. (I say keep the plastic noise making toys for someone who is not already insane from the daily noise level in their home). I especially requested some of my childhood favorites: Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, and Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible No Good Very Bad Day. If you do not have these books for your kids get them NOW. That's an order. They make me feel FUN every time I read them and this is at least 2x a day.
